Welcome to the first issue of "Getting to Know Your Coaches!" Coach Amanda has been with Cheer Pride since 2014, and currently coaches our Senior Level 2 team. We recently sat down with Amanda to ask her a few questions!
1. How long have you been involved in Cheer? 20 years
2. What made you choose to be a part of the Cheer Pride family? Lisa and Christina both worked at a previous gym that I cheered at as a kid, and I heard nothing but wonderful things about them. After my first meeting with Lisa, it was undeniable that Cheer Pride is all about family and that is what I loved about my own experience with this sport. As a cheerleader you want a safe environment that you can call a second home, coaches that you can call mentors and role models, and a team that you can call family. It is evident that Cheer Pride embraces that culture and that the staff stresses the importance of effort, dedication, support, positivity, and achieving goals, both individually and as a team. Cheer Pride values beginners just as much as Level 4 and 5 athletes and the staff focuses on teaching great work ethic, sportsmanship, teamwork and passion for the sport, which as a coach are goals I have as well. I thought it was a perfect fit and I couldn’t be happier to be part of the family. . 3. What aspect of cheer are you most passionate about? I have always been passionate about stunting. I was always teased about my height and petite frame as a kid, but with cheerleading I was destined to be a flyer because for this sport, my size was an asset. I was always passionate about learning new stunts and skills and gaining as much knowledge I could to help my team achieve our goals. I love the multi-faceted approaches of stunting and tumbling and how the sport is always evolving. Ultimately, I love that everything you work so hard for is measured in two minutes and thirty seconds. I love the thrill of leaving everything on the floor, giving it all that you've got and doing SO many challenging skills in such a short amount of time. There is no better feeling than being a part of this sport.
4. What is your favorite thing about coaching? I coach to influence children in a positive way, make a lifelong impact on them as my coaches have had on me, and provide them with the same passion that I have for this sport. Cheerleading has always been such a huge part of my life and I want to share that with each and every athlete. I love seeing our teams unite and grow closer each practice. I love seeing them achieve milestones in their skills and personal development both in cheerleading and in real life situations. I enjoy witnessing the feeling our athletes get when they “hit” something. The energy and excitement that is expressed on athletes’ faces when they accomplish a skill, always thrills me. It’s that ultimate realization that “they can do anything they put their minds to” with hard work and determination.
5. What's your greatest memory as a coach? I loved my entire first year at Cheer Pride, but I will never forget the excitement and genuine happiness on the faces of my Junior 1 girls last year when they won U.S. Finals. That feeling is like no other and I want that for all of my athletes.
